Scribd: Your New Source for Original Audio Books

Scribd looks to be giving Audible a run for its money in the audio book production space.

Publisher’s Weekly reported that Scribd is positioning itself in the publishing space to create original e-book and audio content. Scribd will be releasing this content under the banner of Scribd Originals, a move that seems like a jaunty nod to another big player in the audio space, Audible.

But Scribd comes to the battle for audio market share armed with a roster of content creators that show the platform means business. The premiere title is reported to be Mueller’s War from Garrett Graff. If that sounds familiar, that’s because the work is an expansion of Graff’s 2018 Wired cover story.

Graff will find himself in good company, though. PW reports that authors Roxanne Gay, Paul Theroux, Peter Heller, and Hilton Als are also attached to Scribd Originals. Pacing to release a new title each month, the Bookphonic team can’t wait to see Scribd Originals find its place among today’s audiobook production houses.
